Can You Make Peace with Your Cravings?

I was chatting with a client recently and told her that over the weekend, I drank a soda. This may not be a shock to you, but it was for me because I haven’t had a soda in about twenty years.

I was at a horse farm with my girlfriend enjoying some time away from home, and this craving came over me. I really, really wanted a soda.

Every time I’ve tried to drink soda in the past (after I quit soft drinks), I got an instant headache. This was a blessing when I was getting off my soft drink addiction because it made the cravings a lot easier to reject.

Are You Being Abused By A Narcissist?

A long time ago, I was taught that a narcissist was a person who stared into the mirror and adored themselves for hours. But after years of working with couples on many kinds of issues, including narcissistic abuse, my perspective on narcissism has broadened greatly.

Narcissists wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t also drag other people into their world, manipulating them to do what they want regardless of the harm they inflicted. If they kept to themselves, most people could ignore them and go on with life.

Measuring Your Worth and Esteem – Jealous and Insecure in the Relationship

Self-esteem stems from the level of self-worth you have about yourself. How do you raise either or both so that you can walk through life confidently and assert yourself when needed?

There’s “street knowledge” then there’s book (academic) knowledge. Street Knowledge is having real-world experience. Book knowledge is when you know what to do but don’t necessarily know how to do it, or have the courage to do it.

In the Ask Paul segment, I read a letter from a jealous husband who doesn’t like it when other people look at his wife. He can’t figure out how to get past these feelings.

Insecurities abound in this segment so it’s a great segue from the last one. There’s a little bit of ego involved, a leap of faith, and a lot of trust that may need to be built up in order to allow the jealousy to go away.

Self-empowerment means you have no fear in making the decisions that are right for you.

It is having options when there appear to be none because you accept the consequences for decisions you wouldn’t normally make.

After all, if you can accept almost any consequence, even when it is unpleasant, you have more options.

Your self-worth starts when you interpret what your parents or caretakers think about you. If you interpret that they don’t value you, you don’t value yourself.

As the years go by, your self-esteem builds from your level of self-worth. If you have low self-worth as a child, you have low self-esteem as an adult. It’s time to rebuild both so that you don’t have so much fear and insecurity in your life.

Also, I read an email from a listener who is struggling between being a child and an adult in different situations. It’s constantly stressing him out and he can’t seem to step into that adult role when needed.
